As a life-long learner, I love teaching others! My mother’s influence as a teacher motivated me to study Education at Texas State University and obtain a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration through Concordia University. I have been blessed to teach a few different grades and at a few different schools. I have taken on a few responsibilities at school where I have worked including TELPAS Verifier, Positive Behavior Representative, GT Committee Member, Campus Innovation Coach, and Team Leader. My favorite quote is “A good teacher is like a candle- it consumes itself to light the way for others.” -Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

   Fourth Grade Teacher, Team Leader

I began teaching in 2005. I teach because I want to make a difference in the world, and to enrich children’s love of literacy and writing.  I’m honored to be the 4th Grade Team Leader and Patton Literacy Lead. I try to bring a forward thinking, progressive approach to teaching by incorporating S.T.E.A.M. learning into language arts after having participated in the Thinkery EducatorExchange program in 2015.  My path to education began with graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications, with minors in Writing and Visual Arts.  I followed that with graduating as an Art Director from The Creative Circus, a graduate level advertising program. After that, I spent time working with children at summer camps in New York where they convinced me to give up advertising and move on to education.  I received my M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado and moved to Austin to begin my teaching career.

I began my teaching career in 2014. I attended Southern Arkansas University, where I obtained my Bachelors in Middle School Education. All of my teaching experience has been taught in 4th grade.  I enjoy this age and watching them mature into young adults throughout the year. I strive to be a positive influence and role model in all of my students’ lives. I believe students grow when they are challenged and encouraged to move out of their comfort zones.

I attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa Oklahoma, where I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and English Language Learning. I began my teaching career in August of 2015, in Tulsa. I have taught 5th grade, 2nd grade, and now 4th grade.  I count myself as blessed, because I get to do what I love everyday. I teach because I love seeing the ‘ah ha” moments that take place when students learn something new, or become more independent in their thinking! I believe strong classroom communities, create a foundation for intentional and purposeful learning. Relationship is everything to me, so I strive to build meaningful relationships with each of my students, and promote a ‘family’ climate in our classroom. My goal as a teacher is to help my students become independent and passionate readers, writers, and thinkers. I am thrilled to be able to continue my career at Patton, and I’m excited to be apart of the Patton Family!
